National Center for biotechnology information (NCBI) is a platform which enclose a complete series of data relavant to all biotechnological, biomedical and other bioinformatics services. NCBI is an open public source which could be accessed for free from anywhere in the world. This database have been founded by Claude pepper in 1988 through legislation, whose headquarters is suitated in Betherda Maryland U.S. NCBI is a part of the United States National library of medicine (NLM) , a branch of National Institute of health (NIH).
 
Entrez is a specially designed search engine mainly used in NCBI which helps in the intergration of all the data from several different sources to the user.

How to get information from NCBI

  • In google search
  • Type NCBI and search
  • Go to NCBI page

The main 6 basic tools available in NCBI are:

  1. Download - this option is mainly used to download all the required genomic information like DNA sequence , protein sequence etc.  through FTP (file transfer protocol) which have been uploaded early . As it is easier for the user to compare their finding with other registered sequence. 
  2. Submit - the tool is used by all the researchers throughout the world where they can submit their complete research details. These details can be viewed and used by other upcoming research scholars for their research work.
  3. Learn - this helps us to get connected with NCBI in their educational programs like webinars, courses , conferences, presentation etc., by which we could register to the courses and get knowledge. they also provide all the materials and other recordings of their previous webinar and courses  that is available every time.
  4. Develop - this is used to create our own tools. By which our data which finds difficult to upload would be  uploaded , and makes our research easy. All the datas can be  easily accessible by the users.
  5. Analyse - is the main tool which completely help in  analysing our own research results. That helps  us to compare ours with other NCBI results, with all  datas that are available in the NCBI portal.
